sclerotherapy<\/u><\/a> is used to target larger <u><a href=\"https:\/\/uk-vc.com\/varicose-veins-in-legs\/\">varicose veins<\/a>,<\/u> <a href=\"https:\/\/uk-vc.com\/microsclerotherapy-treatment\/\"><u>microsclerotherapy<\/u><\/a> uses tiny micro-needles to specifically target thread veins. The <a href=\"https:\/\/uk-vc.com\/faqs-varicose-veins-operation\/#what-is-a-sclerosant\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sclerosant<\/span><\/a> is also injected directly, without being mixed with air to create a foam. It is by far the most common and most effective form of treatment for thread veins.<\/p><p>Some clinics will offer treatment of thread veins using laser or intense pulse light (IPL). The drug used in microsclerotherapy is the same as used in foam sclerotherapy (sodium tetradecyl sulphate (STS)). The difference is that, in foam sclerotherapy, the sclerosant is mixed with air to create a foam and is used to treat larger veins.<\/p><p>With meticulous planning and technique, it is possible to get superb results for the vast majority of patients with microsclerotherapy. You will then be asked to sign the required documentation before proceeding with the microsclerotherapy treatment.<\/p><p>We can play music of your choice if you like, and a nurse will be at your side throughout the procedure.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6ae3c4f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6ae3c4f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The procedure<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4eeb257b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4eeb257b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The microsclerotherapy procedure involves injecting a sclerosant (diluted drug), into your thread veins, which causes localised damage to the inner lining (endothelium). This subsequently causes the injected veins to collapse. The inner lining of the vein becomes thickened, sealing off the vein so that blood can no longer flow through it. The blood is redirected to deeper veins and the dead tissue is eventually absorbed by the body.<\/p><p>During the treatment, your thread veins will initially disappear instantly as the sclerosant is injected into the vein. However, the veins then rapidly become more red and visible again immediately after treatment due to inflammation. The veins can often look worse immediately after microsclerotherapy treatment. It is common to develop localised redness, similar to a nettle sting. It usually takes several days or even weeks for the inflammation to settle, and for the veins to disappear.<\/p><p>As microsclerotherapy involves a series of tiny injections, some patients find this uncomfortable or mildly painful. The sclerosant used may also sting slightly.<\/p><p>Each session usually takes around 30-45 minutes, depending on the number of veins that need treatment. It is important to note that the majority of patients will require more than one session in order to achieve the desired effect.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1e34bffe elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1e34bffe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Post-procedure<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-24cec02 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"24cec02\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Once the session has finished, a nurse will help you to put on <a href=\"https:\/\/uk-vc.com\/faqs-remove-varicose-veins\/#why-do-i-need-to-wear-compression-stockings-after-treatment\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">compression stocking(s)<\/span><\/a> on the affected leg(s). You\u2019ll need to wear these for a full week post-treatment, and the nurse will talk you through how to wear them and bathe in them. You\u2019ll also be provided with aftercare advice, including any post-treatment symptoms to be aware of.<\/p><p>We will ask you to take at least a 10-minute walk following your microsclerotherapy appointment, prior to making your way home, to minimise the risk of blood clots.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d5fe865 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5d5fe865\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Recovery<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-66873c3b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"66873c3b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Following microsclerotherapy treatment, you will need to wear surgical compression stockings for a week. This will prevent you from swimming but should not restrict your movement.<\/p><p>The sclerosant used may result in some bruising. The extent of the bruising will depend on the size of the area treated and the number of veins in that area.<\/p><p>You can drive on the same day as microsclerotherapy treatment, and resume your normal activities straight away. We strongly encourage you to go on at least a 20-minute walk each day.
